The present study was aimed at evaluating the internal control system of the Cooperativa Unión Verde, Santa Rosa branch, during the period January–July 2025. The specific objectives were to analyze the contribution of internal control to the prevention of credit risks, to describe the strengths and weaknesses of the system, to examine the normative integration with credit and collection policies, and to assess the impact of control activities on daily management. The research was conducted under a mixed-methods approach, with a descriptive and correlational cross-sectional design, supported by the COSO (2013) framework. The population consisted of staff members from the credit and collection department, with a purposive sample of seven key participants. Structured Likert-scale questionnaires were applied to obtain quantitative data, and semi-structured interviews were conducted to capture qualitative perceptions. The results showed that the internal control system presents strengths in operational activities, particularly in reducing delinquency and ensuring process reliability, while weaknesses are concentrated in organizational culture and normative integration, which tends to be partial and reactive to external audits. It was confirmed that the systematic application of field verifications and checklists contributes to financial sustainability, although member participation and cultural acceptance of control practices remain pending challenges.
